ELSP Program - Third Meeting

Hello everyone!

I'm very sorry we were not able to meet at American Corner for our third meeting. I was afraid to go to campus because of the demonstrations you see, and I'm quite sure you wouldn't want to risk yourselves too Ù©(-̮̮̃-̃)Û¶

So anyway, just try to imagine that we are having our class now. And you know my first question before we start our class... how is your reading going? Has your 'reading stamina' improved? Please let me now by commenting on this post or the link to this post on Facebook. I hope that the 'seed' we had planted at the very beginning of our class had started to grow into a sprout, as a result of your hard work!

Now, let us move on to our next Reading Skills: Identifying the main idea, important facts, and supporting details of a text. In this post, I will not attempt to explain everything in minute details, but instead I will provide some links to sites that I consider will be helpful for you to understand our subject in the third meeting. Please do read them, and ask questions at the end of your reading (by commenting on this post/link on Facebook or contacting me).

I believe this third meeting will only serve to freshen up your memory, since you have learned these reading skills in the course: MKU Bahasa Inggris 。◕‿◕。

Below are some links, that I have divided into 'Compulsory Reading' and 'Recommended Reading'.
  • Compulsory Reading
Identifying Topics, Main Ideas, and Supporting Details (This link also provides material on other reading skills)

Finding the Main Idea

Guidelines for Determining an Author's Main Idea (This is in PDF format)

Identifying Supporting Details

  • Recommended Reading (Exercises)
Practice: Identify Main Idea

Identifying the Main Idea (Practice Online)

I hope you will find these links useful. Remember, do not hesitate to contact me.

Have a nice evening!

- Nanda
